Do I need to be of Celtic descent or teach a Celtic language to be an Advisor?
Not at all! Faculty Advisors simply need a passion for student leadership, academic excellence, and cultural stewardship. Our current advisors teach a wide range of subjects, from History and English to the Arts and Sciences.
How much time does it take to manage a chapter?
We know an educator’s time is their most valuable asset. The NCHS is designed as a "Club in a Box." Once chartered, you receive access to our Official Advisor Toolkit, which includes standardized rubrics, student project menus, and induction scripts. It requires zero weekend prep from you—the framework empowers student officers to take the lead on operations and event planning.
Can the NCHS operate within an existing school club?
Yes. If your school already has an active Irish, Scottish, or general History/Cultural club, the NCHS can seamlessly act as the prestigious "honor tier" for the most dedicated students within that larger organization.
What are the requirements for induction?
To earn official induction and the right to wear the NCHS graduation cord, students must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, remain in good behavioral standing, and independently complete rigorous projects to earn all four Membership Seals: Scholarly, Service, Cultural, and Leadership.
What if my high school doesn't offer Celtic language or history classes?
The NCHS is built to reward independent study. Students do not need formal coursework to qualify. The Scholarly and Cultural Seals can be earned through independent historical research, producing educational displays, participating in community arts, or dedicated linguistic study outside of school hours.
Are there annual dues for students?
No. Students pay a single, one-time registration fee of $30.00 to your local chapter when they apply. This covers their lifetime entry into the National Registry and pays entirely for their physical Induction Kit (the official NCHS enamel pin, gold-foil embossed certificate, and double-twisted graduation cord).
What does the Annual Charter Fee cover?
This flat annual fee, typically paid by the school's club or activities account, covers your chapter's operational license, national database management, and the exclusive right to use the standardized rubrics and NCHS branding.
Do you accept Purchase Orders (POs) from school districts?
Yes. The NCHS operates with complete financial transparency to make approval by your school’s bookkeeping department seamless. We accept district POs, school checks, and standard credit card payments for all charter fees.
When should chapters hold their induction ceremonies?
Chapters have the flexibility to schedule their own events, but the vast majority hold their formal induction banquets in late April or early May. This allows students the entire academic year to complete their Four Seals and ensures the National Board has time to ship the physical induction kits prior to graduation.
