NCHS Independent and Homeschool Chapter Policy

The National Celtic Honor Society (NCHS) proudly welcomes applications from homeschool collectives, co-ops, and independent educational networks. As a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, NCHS is committed to maintaining uniform standards for academic excellence, community service, and organizational oversight across all of our chapters.

To ensure impartiality and continuity, standalone independent homeschools (single-family operations) are not eligible to hold a standard chapter charter at this time. Homeschool and independent applicants must meet the following criteria to establish an official NCHS chapter:

• Organizational Affiliation: The chapter must be hosted by a recognized homeschool co-op, umbrella school, regional collective, or formal educational network.

• Impartial Advisor Oversight: The designated Chapter Advisor must be an administrator, instructor, or board member within the co-op/network who is not solely the parent or legal guardian of the participating students.

• Academic Verification: The affiliated network must possess a standardized, objective method for verifying student GPAs or academic standing that aligns with NCHS national requirements.

• Continuity: The host organization must demonstrate the capacity to sustain the chapter and its leadership beyond the graduation of the founding students.

Please Note: Applicants representing a homeschool network will be required to provide documentation of their umbrella organization (such as a website link, charter, or formal network guidelines) during the application process.

Not part of a traditional high school or formal homeschool co-op? You can still earn your honors!

We are thrilled to announce The Wild Geese, an independent, at-large chapter designed specifically for individual homeschool students, competitive dancers, and musicians who want to actively celebrate their heritage and earn national recognition.

Just like our traditional chapters, independent students will be able to earn their Four Seals of Membership and their official NCHS regalia. Plus, if you are already competing in Irish dance or a pipe band, those activities count directly toward your Culture Seal!
